First to Stand: The Cases and Causes of Irwin Cotler
a film by Irene Lilienheim Angelico
and Abbey Jack Neidik
We are proud to announce that First to Stand featuring Irwin Cotler, this year’s Nobel Peace Prize nominee, former Canadian Minister of Justice and global champion of human rights and political activists worldwide, including Natan Sharansky, Nelson Mandela and Iranian American journalist Masih Alinejad.
Masih Alinejad, a pioneer of the woman’s rights movement in Iran, has been a Time Magazine honoree Women of the Year and the recipient of the American Jewish Committee’s Moral Courage Award. Both Irwin and Masih have been honored by the Geneva Summit for Human Rights and Democracy. And both have been subject to assassination attempts from Iran.
Join us for the screening and post-film Q&A with Masih Alinejad, acclaimed director Irene Lilienheim Angelico, and moderator Rick Salomon, co‑founder of the Illinois Holocaust Museum for what should be a dynamic discussion of Cotler’s remarkable work and Alinejad’s relentless fight for women’s rights and justice in Iran.
Run Time: 1 hour 21 minutes. The filmmakers will both be present.
Registration required. Free to the public.
