Assassination plot against Irwin Cotler foiled by RCMP

An assassination attempt by the Iranian regime against Irwin Cotler was foiled this week by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP). It was the most recent threat since our screening for Congress a year ago.

The regime also tried to assassinate Iranian women’s rights activist Masih Alinejad, another subject featured in First to Stand: the Cases and Causes of Irwin Cotler, for the third time.

Aside from the grave danger, the attempt underscores the vital work that both Irwin and Masih are both doing for human rights, women’s rights, justice and democracy. Despite the dangers, both are committed to continuing their pursuits.

Broadcasts and articles have covered the event worldwide and the House of Commons unanimously supported a Bloc Québécois motion condemning the plot and saluting Cotler’s human rights work.

I believe it is very important for the world to know more about both these great heroes.
